For thousands of years Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture has aided people with pain relief or discomfort for many different health issues and concerns. Our TCM Acupuncturist at Nepean Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Centre explains the benefits of TCM and Acupuncture.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been around for centuries and is an ancient system of medicine that originates from China.TCM has been studied and developed over thousands of years to prevent, diagnose, and treat pain and discomfort for various illnesses and injuries. TCM is based around the concept of Qi (pronounced chee), our body’s natural life force, which flows throughout the energy pathways of our body keeping us healthy. Blockages and imbalances in our energy pathways can lead to illness and injury.

Key Components of TCM

In Ancient China, they believed that our body’s natural life forces are interconnected to nature’s natural forces. Maintaining the balance between health and disease in our bodies meant maintaining the balance between both forces. TCM treatment attempts to restore balance between the body’s internal organs and systems, and the external elements of earth, fire, water, wood, and metal. TCM treatment is customized to each individual and our treatment options at Nepean Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Centre include:

- Acupuncture
- Cupping (dry or wet)
- Blood Letting
- TCM Food Guide Education
- Full Holistic Body Care

Benefits of Acupuncture

TCM Acupuncture is one of the most common and studied treatment methods in TCM. TCM Acupuncture targets the body’s meridians, which are the energy pathways in our body where Qi flows. It involves inserting small needles into specific points in the body to stimulate the flow of Qi when it’s blocked or unbalanced.
