Physiotherapists

Virginia Boro
B. Sc. PT and Clinic Director

Virginia co-founded The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre in 1988. She is presently the owner and director of the centre. Virginia has been involved in sports medicine in Ottawa since 1975. She has been the chief physiotherapist at many sporting events including The Ottawa Marathon and The National Figure Skating Championships. She has been trained in treating patients with Radial Shockwave Therapy. Virginia is also a licensed FitForeGolf therapist. Her interests include skiing, golf and cycling.

Allen Hicks
BA(Hon)PE, B. Sc. PT, FCAMT

Allen is a Registered Physical Therapist and a Kinesiologist. In addition to his degree in Physical Therapy, he has an honours degree in Physical Education with a focus on athletic injuries and exercise physiology. He has completed his diploma in Advanced Manual and Manipulative Therapy and is a member of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy.

Allen has worked at the Nepean Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Centre since 2001. Throughout his career, Allen has worked with amateur and professional athletes from a variety of sports, including golf, hockey, and baseball. He was the Athletic Therapist for the 1995 University of Western Ontario Mustangs hockey team and has provided medical coverage for various events (marathons, figure skating championships, baseball championships, hockey tournaments).

Allen’s interests include hockey, baseball, fitness training, and golf. He has been a licensed FitforeGolf therapist since 1999.

Angelo Karalekas
Bsc. (Biology), B. Sc. PT

Angelo graduated with a Physiotherapy degree from The University of Alberta. He has been a Physiotherapist at The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre since October, 1999. He is trained in acupunture and has experience as a trainer at various sporting events including the 2001 World Track & Field Championships. His interests include soccer, tennis and cycling.

Barb Pulfer
B. Sc. PT

Barb graduated in 1991 with a BSc in physiotherapy, which followed a BSc in kinesiology. She has worked at the Nepan Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre since 1998 on a part-time basis. Her interests outside of work are raising her three children, coaching swimming and staying fit doing triathlons.

Yolanda Tsang
B. Sc. PT, Pilates instructor, trained in acupuncture.

Yolanda Tsang is a 1993 Queen’s graduate who has been with the Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre since 1999. From her experience abroad, she brings to the clinic a diverse range of skills which include: manual therapy, MacKenzie, Mulligan, certifications in Pilates, Yoga and acupuncture. She also is an independent accessor for MVA injuries; a consultant physiotherapist at Hillel Lodge and owns her own Pilates/Hydrotherapy business.

Lina Gutierrez
RPT

Lina  graduated with a Physiotherapy degree in 1998 in Colombia, South America. She has been working at The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Clinic since 2005. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Her interests include scuba diving and kickboxing.

CHANTAL GONEAU

Chantal is a bilingual registered physiotherapist. She is also a Can-Fit-Pro certified personal trainer, nutrition, and wellness specialist.

Chantal graduated from Ottawa University as a physiotherapist in 1993. She has worked in Louisiana, Texas and Ottawa. Chantal has worked with the Ottawa Lacrosse teams as a physiotherapist and has also offered her physiotherapy services at rugby, gymnastics and soccer tournaments in Ottawa.

Chantal’s individualized physiotherapy treatment programs include manual therapy, therapeutic exercises and education. Her goal is to assist patients in attaining their maximal functional potential and to be independent with a home exercise program. She enjoys participating in continuing education courses yearly in order to fill her tool box with new treatment approaches and exercises.

Chantal has joined Dr. Neda Amani-Golshani’s Real You Program to assist individuals in improving their physical condition, health and quality of life. She enjoys designing exercise programs for those who are interested in losing body fat, toning their muscles, reducing stress, increasing their energy, increasing their flexibility, normalizing their blood pressure and avoiding joint pain. Chantal strives to provide her clients with exceptional a client-centered service and to excel in her work.

Dr. Arkadiusz Daniel
Dip. Sports Medicine

Dr. Daniel graduated from Ottawa University with his medical degree in 1996. He has been practising family medicine since 1998. He obtained his Diploma in Sports Medicine in the fall of 2006 and has been working at The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre since October, 2005.  It is not necessary to have a referral to see Dr. Daniel.


Naturopathic Doctors

Andréa Proulx
BScH, PTS, ND.

Andréa graduated with a bachelor of science honours in the specialized Life Sciences program from Queen’s University. She then furthered her education and training by graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.

Both as an intern and in private practise, Andréa is a forerunner and advocate for the continuity and development of Naturopathic Sports Medicine.

As a former varsity Track & Field pole vaulter, Andréa has turned her athletic ambitions to the triathlon and marathons worlds. She is currently planning for the Ottawa Iron-113-triathlon. Andréa is also an ultimate Frisbee enthusiast; keeping her eye on the disc and feet occasionally on the ground.

Andréa provides services in both English and French.

As an ND, Andréa strives to empower her patients to take an active role in their health and enjoy a happy and active lifestyle. Personally and professionally, she endeavours to achieve creative balance for the needs of the mind, body and soul. Andréa believes in personalized care and addressing the root cause of disease; working together with the patient to see from new perspectives and realize new goals.


 

Massage Therapists

Heidi Bauer
Registered Massage Therapist

Heidi graduated form Kikkawa College in Toronto as a registered massage therapist in 2000. She started working at The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre in 2002. Heidi is involved with figure skating as a "Learn to Skate" coach and skates on a competitive synchronized skating team.

Lauri Keogh
Registered Massage Therapist

Lauri graduated from The International Academy of Massage in 2000. She started working at The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre in 2003. Her interests include horseback riding, cycling and hiking.


Dietitians

Kim Steinke
Registered Dietitian

Kim has been providing nutritional counselling services in the Ottawa area since 1989 for childhood obesity, diabetes, heart disease, weight management, digestive disorders, vegetarianism and healthy eating in individual or family counselling sessions. Physician referral not required.


Chiropodist

Gina Rifa
Chiropodist

Gina has been a Chiropodist at The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre since December, 2003. She graduated from the Chiropody program at the Michener Institute in Toronto in 1985. She has over 20 years experience working within general practice, sports medicine and with diabetics. Gina's hobbies include running and cross country skiing.

Nancy Fitzgerald
Our cheerful office manager

Nancy has a BA in psychology which she obtained at Carleton University in 1990. She started working at The Nepean Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy Centre in 2000. She has been the office manager since 2003. Her efficient and friendly manner keep the office operating smoothly.
